How we collect, use and protect your personal data, and the rights you have over it.

1. Who we are
This website is operated by Motor Distributors Ltd (trading as BYD · MDL Energy Ireland), of Naas Road, Dublin 12, Ireland. We are the data controller responsible for your personal data. You can contact us about privacy at hello@bydenergy.ie.
This policy explains how we handle personal data in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Acts 1988–2018.
2. The information we collect
Information you give us, for example when you request a quote, use our calculators, enquire about finance, or contact us:
- Name and contact details (mobile number, email address)
- Property details (such as your Eircode, home type and energy usage)
- Quote, savings and finance enquiry details
- Your contact preferences and consents (including whether you opt in to WhatsApp)
- Any other information you choose to provide in messages to us
Information we collect automatically when you use the site: device and browser type, IP address, pages viewed and similar usage data, collected via cookies and similar technologies (see section 8).
3. How and why we use your data
- To respond to your enquiry and provide a quote, on the basis of taking steps at your request prior to entering a contract, and our legitimate interests.
- To arrange finance, where you ask us to, to share your application with a regulated lender (we act as a credit intermediary); on the basis of taking steps prior to a contract and, where required, your consent.
- To contact you by phone, SMS, email or WhatsApp about your enquiry and, where you have opted in, about relevant offers, on the basis of your consent and/or our legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- To operate, secure and improve the website, on the basis of our legitimate interests.
- To meet legal and regulatory obligations, where the law requires it.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as needed with:
- Our certified installation and survey partners, to deliver the service you request
- A regulated finance provider, where you ask us to arrange finance
- Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract (for example customer-relationship, email, messaging and analytics providers)
- Professional advisers, and authorities or regulators where required by law
- Other companies within the Motor Distributors Ltd group, where relevant to your enquiry
Our processors act only on our instructions and are bound by appropriate data-protection terms.
5. International transfers
Where a provider processes data outside the European Economic Area, we put appropriate safeguards in place (such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your data.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes above, typically for the duration of our dealings with you and a reasonable period afterwards, and longer where the law requires (for example tax or consumer-credit record-keeping).

Under GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Have inaccurate data corrected, and incomplete data completed
- Have your data erased in certain circumstances
- Restrict or object to our processing in certain circumstances
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
