Cost & SEAI grant

The SEAI solar grant covers your panels, up to €1,800, tiered by the size of the system, and a separate €600 SEAI battery grant covers a battery of 5kWh or larger. Both are taken off the cost below to show what the system costs once SEAI has paid you. How we calculate this

*SEAI grants are applied for by the homeowner and approved and paid by SEAI. Eligibility, approval and payment are between you and SEAI, and grant amounts are set by SEAI and can change. We'll make sure the paperwork your grant needs is completed.

How we calculate this
- • Electricity price: 35c a unit. The saving is modelled as a share of your bill, plus 15 percentage points if you charge an EV.
- • Generation cap: the saving never exceeds what your panels make, taken as 900 kWh per kWp of panels a year, a typical Irish yield.
- • SEAI grant: the solar grant on the panels, €700 per kWp to 2 kWp, €200 per kWp from 2 to 4 kWp, capped at €1,800, plus the separate €600 SEAI battery grant for a battery of 5kWh or larger. Payback is the cost after both grants divided by the yearly saving.
- • CO₂: the electricity you no longer buy × 0.198 kg of CO₂ a unit, the SEAI electricity conversion factor.
